Reactive Archive: Images of Political Art in the 1960s-1980s Latin America and the Contemporary Gaze
Abstract
This article analyses the presence of archival images of Latin American artistic practices from the 1960s into the 1980s in exhibition circuits. The aim is to understand the desire for such images and how they can be necessary for the emancipation of Latin America. In this way, an analysis is sought from theorists who debate the scenario of revisionism in the history of hegemonic art, the situation of these practices as a result of the oppression experienced both by the contexts of military dictatorship and by the colonial history of Latin America, as well as how to understand the spectator’s attitude towards these images and what they can evoke.
